This tractor was painted in 1999 with vansickle paint.it has probably had a 1000 hrs put on it since being painted.this tractor has been outside while being used quite a bit.it was used for moving tobacco wagons while harvesting tobacco and once i got it out it would stay out for the day.the sheetmetal has been waxed to keep a shine on it.there is some dulling of the paint where it has not. I mostly use the van sickle for implements, since due to their use/abuse, mowing, turning ground, etc. These paints contain rust arrestor for corrosion resistance, and may be paired with van sickle® hardener for improved gloss, chemical resistance, and dry time.

I have tried other paints, valspar, rustoleum, ace and the van sickle is by far the best paint i have found. Van sickle ford blue 466: Put on a good 2 part epoxy primer first.

Stay away from napa paint. Van sickle® tractor equipment & industrial enamel flat red primer 12 oz. We sanded and sanded on it.

Just an update, van sickle doesnt receive very good reviews from tractor owners and they dont sell direct.they show all these colors on their web but it looks like it would be a hassle to order,the few distributors the owner sent me came up nill. It does fade a little faster than ih in the sun, but not too bad. It's easy to work with, covers well and shines great for years.

Have rattle cans for touch up and matches good too. Even with hardner it will be faded in a year or two. They do need touched up more often, and are usually so dirty i am not sure which color they are.

The last time i bought automotive paint i got a quart of paint, reducer and hardener for @$100 from napa. I have used the van sickle paints for years, and the color is a good match to ih. Has held up very good in my opinion.

Then paint again, after the major parts are. Old cat yellow is unavailable in aerosol, at least as far as i could find. Dad had a 1962 ford pickup.

The last time i checked the paint from tsc is a little over 30 dollars a gallon and is alot cheaper then the local automotive paint stores,i know the color selection is limited but since the ford tractor blue is close to the original color i will be buying 3 gallons and enough hardener and get painting. Primed it with napa primer and painted it with napa blue paint with napa brand hardner added. Last spring, (2012),i painted 'tater,using van sickle brand,premium alkyd enamel paint.the reason was because the price was right,and the manufacturer claims that this premium product is very durable,especially if equipment sits outdoors for prolonged periods.
